  He is fairly laid back and is not as stuck up as his Avariel brethren. Deeply religious. Gunnar finds it hard to trust others but this is mostly due to the many stories of Avariel being hunted for their wings. Tends not to judge or jump to conclusions most of the time. Chaotic Neutral alignment.

• Back Story

  Due to the strange tint to his hair when he was born Gunnar was immediately brought to the local cleric/priestess and was raised by her and the small convent she led, where they set to making him into a cleric and trained him towards becoming the next village high priest, seeing as he was the first strange haired child born in their village and was born the day after the old high priest died. Gunnar didn't like the idea of becoming high preist (or being a cleric) but he wanted to make his family proud so he studied hard and refrained from complaining too often seeing as he would also be allowed to be taught his family's dancing. The young Avariel was not allowed to play with other Avariel children, the priestess believed them to be beneath him and would distract him from his divine purpose, though Gunnar didn't see why not seeing as there were plenty children who were undoubtedly just as talented as he and maybe even better suited to his future job. On multiple occasions he sneaked out under the priestesses noses and went to play with the other kids who thought it was wonderful the child that was so highly regarded wanted to play with them, but the local bullies thought otherwise and began pushing Gunnar around mocking his hair and other things kids pick on each other about. Gunnar wound up getting rather bruised and the priestess was furious, she decided he would not be allowed to go outside any longer.
  Not often did Avariel resort to confinement or isolation with any of their kind due to their shared severe claustrophobia, but the priestess never was kind or sympathetic and always brought up the curses and punishments of Aerdrie Faenya if she was ever disrespected by the villagers. So from the age of 8 to 20 Gunnar was kept in the temple and only allowed to fly around the enclosed courtyard they had installed for him, the priestess also disallowed him from dancing outside of his practice sessions with the professional dancers. During this time a group of wizards came into town, no one trusted them and no one knew how they got to their hidden village but there were two Celestials disguised as Avariel, and they convinced the villagers not to kill them and to let them stay the night at the temple. During the night they started a fire and grabbed several Avariel with magic nets and ran off with them presumably to be used in trade or peace offerings to dragons and giants. Thankfully the temple priestesses protected the temple from burning down while the village quickly tried putting the flames out, Gunnar's father was one of them putting the fires out though he flew too close to some flames and his wings caught on fire. With one wing burnt too much to be repaired Arnnal chose to kill himself rather than deal with the pity the others would treat him with. Gunnar took his father's death with great stride, he never had a strong connection with Arnnal so he felt he had no need to mourn the loss (though he did in fact become rather depressed over it like most 10 year olds would).
  At 20 he had completed his training and was elected high priest and was considered one of the best clerics around, known for using his dancing to invoke special healing spells. Due to his long isolation his social skills were severely lacking and he often found himself annoying people or angering them with how truthful he could be (his social skills have since improved but still finds conversation hard). During his 5 years as high priest he found himself wishing more and more to travel and to see the world, but his sense of duty overrode his natural love of freedom and kept him in place until he found an opportunity to take off. An elf caravan bringing supplies and other things to trade mentioned a need for a cleric since theirs had taken ill and stayed behind, a few from the convent offered healing if they needed it but would not travel with them, the elves went to Gunnar and asked for his help in finding a cleric for them and he volunteered. The villagers were rather upset by this and thought him stupid for deciding to leave them for such lowly elves. His mother was not pleased either but knew she could do nothing to stop him from leaving, his sister only had encouraging words and prayed Aerdrie Faenya watch over him during his travels.
